MIXED EMOTIONS

The classic definition of “mixed emotions” is watching your mother-in-law go over a cliff in your new Ferrari. The new definition is telling your best friend, a dressage fanatic, “I’m so sorry, Jim, but we’ve already sold all the dressage VIP and Plaza seats for the 2007 World Cup.”

You’ve heard about rubbing your head and patting your tummy at the same time? Walking and chewing gum at the same time? Now try shedding a genuine tear for your disappointed friend, while you’re jumping three feet in the air and clicking your heels like Gene Kelly, at the wonderful news of the ticket count.

But, if you, my best friend, happen to be reading this and really, really want a good location to watch the great dressage and jumping action, it’s not a problem, be assured that the balcony seats, which are still plentiful, are a perfectly good place to watch a championship sporting event, such as national tournament basketball, the National Finals Rodeo, and the Rolex FEI World Cup Finals of Dressage and Jumping in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007 and, the heavens and the FEI willing, 2009 and every odd year thereafter for the rest of the 21st Century.

Not only will you not miss any of the action, you can take the $150 you just saved, hold your mouth just right when you press the button or pull the lever, and live happily ever after on the jackpot you are bound to win, how’s that for a parley?

In the meantime, jumper fans, you’re doing great, but as usual you’re slower than the dressage maniacs in selling out the last of the premium seats. Some friendly advice, historically it happens fast from here to the encore of our Gene Kelly leaping act, so don’t wait too long!

As for our personal calendar, from now on it’s full speed on our pride and joy, the Official Program. Here’s an innovation, if you have a contents contribution you want us to include, send it in. You might become famous over night!

See you at the Las Vegas World Cups 2007.
